Description

Original B&W art by the late Mike Hinge, a long-term, award-winning science fiction illustrator. Signed within the work. Original art itself is about 27″ x 21″ – larger of course, in frame. Museum-grade matting and framing is by European Gallery of Syracuse, NY. Art and frame both Fine. In the science fiction genre he loved, the New Zealand-born Hinge (1931-2003), who moved to the USA before the greater part of his career, did both book and magazine covers as well as interior illustrations. He did a number of covers for Amazing Stories and Analog in the early 1970s, and was a Hugo nominee. Included in a number of his outside-the-genre works were Time Magazine covers of Richard Nixon and Hirohito. Hinge’s editor at Amazing Stories in the 70s, Ted White, said of him (after hearing of his death at age 72): “I ran more than half a dozen covers by Mike — all of which I loved — as well as interior art and running heads in Amazing/Fantastic.” Hinge’s last professional commission was the September 1993 Amazing Stories. This piece, a remarkable futuristic/militaristic expression, is believed to have been the basis for a poster in the late 1960’s. LArt
