Description

Dutch Girl with Tulips and Dutch Boy with Tulips – Lobeco Figurine Wall Plaques, Circa 1950.  Hong Kong, Lobeco, circa 1950. Rather ornate matched pair of wall plaques from Lobeco, one of several Asian manufacturers of  products (another being Ashleigh Manor, of Taiwan) which over ensuing years have developed a kitsch-y reputation.  Some of these manufacturers still exist. 7 1/2″ tallest dimension, 5 1/8″ widest dimension.  Ornate gilt frames have a plaster like appearance, though they are probably plastic. The ivory-colored figurines are somewhat flexible, probably also a type of plastic, and are mounted on red velveteen.  The young Dutch girl carries a basket with tulips, the boy carries tulips in his left hand and reaches to pluck more growing at his feet. See scans. Near Fine condition; in fact, very much so, with just tiny traces of age wear, some of which may in fact been present from the get-go. Eminently suitable for hanging on the wall – if you have a room of matching style in which to do so. Quite scarce examples of a quirky genre. These will ship in a stout box, of course.
