Why does the lady look so fetching – and so familiar? Everywoman? Can only speculate. 1997: Condition: Fine. Salwowski, Mark (illustrator). 1997: Original cover painting by Mark Salwowski (for the true MacMillan hardcover first edition of Jenny Oldfield’s “All Fall Down”. A sample of the book cover is shown here informationally, but book itself is not included. The painting reveals a wider scene. See all images. Large at 72 x 48 cms, ink on illustration board. Fine, pristine. The cover of Oldfield’s World War I romance novel, featuring an extraordinarily and inexplicably alluring young lady- the heroine, I believe – and authentic period environs. Striking, a sophisticated eye-catcher hanging on the wall – it is, in fact, hanging on mine right now. Framed in walnut (see scan) by Bach Studio in Syracuse. With a copy of Salwowski’s signed transmittal letter. Memory says there may have been a rumor at the time that the artist’s daughter was the model for the subject lady; but that’s definitely not a certainty here. Just a thought. One of a kind.
